About the CCMA

The County and City Managers' Association (CCMA) is the representative body for senior Managers in Irish Local Government. It brings together Managers as practitioners in the local authority service and is the “representative voice” of the system on key issues. The Association meet on an occasional basis to discuss common areas of concern and promote a cohesive approach from the local authority system to issues of relevance and importance including development of best practice, implementation of legislation, and general operational issues. The CCMA develops positions, speaks on behalf of Managers and operates through a number of committees each of which is concerned with a specific policy area.

The CCMA is comprised of the 34 Managers from the 29 County Councils and five City Councils and eight Assistant Managers. It is a non-statutory body that works to ensure that the influence of Managers is brought to bear on the development and implementation of relevant policy.

It operates through a number of established and ad hoc committees each of which is concerned with a specific policy area.

The Committees are:
  • Community, Social and Economic Development;
  • Environment;
  • Local Government Finance;
  • Housing;
  • Land Use and Transportation;
  • Water Services.

It represents its members on external committees, steering groups and organisations and develops evidence-based positions and makes submissions on relevant issues.
