The Local Authority Access Officer Network is a group of Access Officers appointed to the post as a requirement of the Disability Act 2005. The network is supported by LGMSB and the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government and reports to the Disability Act 2005 Steering Committee.
Membership of the network is open to the Access Officer in each local authority. The Network is managed by the Access Officer Network Committee which comprises of the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, members of the network and the LGMSB.
The overall objective of the network is to develop good practice on accessibility matters across the local authority service. The network also aims to:
- Share and collaborate on projects and initiatives which positively impact on the general improvement of accessibility, thus improving economies of scale and effectiveness of programmes and initiatives;
- Share in the learning experiences from other practitioners thus avoiding unnecessary mistakes and enhancing the outcomes of projects;
- Develop a knowledge base and communication network which can be easily tapped into as required including the areas of Built Environment, Access to Services & Access to Information.
