Who We Are

The Local Government Management Services Board (LGMSB) was established under Establishment Order S.I. 410 of 1996 and came into effect on the 1st January 1997. The LGMSB was established by the Department of Environment. In summary, the LGMSB’s purpose, as set out in the Establishment Order, was to provide for local authorities such services as may be required by them for the purposes of staff negotiations, human resources and such other management services. This new remit provided the opportunity to extend the LGMSB’s activities beyond the traditional industrial relations function of the former Local Government Staff Negotiations Board.
